Congratulations, Karen Carpenter-Palumbo

Picotte salutes Karen Carpenter-Palumbo, commissioner of the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), who was honored recently with a “Woman of Excellence Award.”

Every year the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce selects several outstanding women who exemplify the highest quality leadership and who have made a lasting impact on the region, its people and way of life. In the case of Commissioner Carpenter-Palumbo, she has impacted the region, the entire state – and beyond.

Her unparalleled dedication to the total health and wellness of all New Yorkers resulted in a statewide tobacco-free treatment environment, a national "first," promoting freedom from the deadly nicotine addiction that impacts recovery from drugs and alcohol.

Her innovation has improved the lives of 2.5 million New Yorkers suffering from alcoholism, drug abuse and problem gambling.

“The commissioner is to be congratulated for her more than 25 years of service – and dedication – in the health and human services arena. The Capital Region is proud to claim her and appreciate her innovation and hard work to improve the lives of so many New Yorkers,” said Nancy Carey Cassidy, Picotte executive vice president and COO. OASAS is located in a Picotte-owned office building at 1450 Western Ave., Albany.
